This is an especially important preventative measure to help to keep you healthy and strong so that if you encounter someone that’s sick, your body and immune system have a fighting chance to keep you from getting sick. 

Include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. These foods are packed with nutrients and fiber and can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases. We’re going to cover some smoothie ideas and recipes below.

Limit your intake of saturated and trans fats, added sugars, and sodium. These substances can increase your risk of developing health problems. Remember, we are what we eat.

Living a Healthy Lifestyle

If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation. I personally do love a glass of red wine in the evening. 

Be sure to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. It’s very helpful to have a refillable water cup with a lid and straw or a refillable water bottle that you can sip on throughout the day. This little tidbit will do wonders for your skin!

Get regular exercise. Physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases, and improve your overall health. Plus exercise is also great for reducing stress levels. I personally find it great to alternate between resistance workouts, with weights, and flexibility and core strengthening workouts like yoga and pilates provide.

When thinking about a healthy lifestyle, making healthy food choices, and all the great benefits we get from those choices, we also want to keep in mind a delicious way to consume plenty of veggies and fruits and what better way than by making the perfect smoothie.

How to Make a Perfect Smoothie Every Time 

Assuming you have a blender and some basic ingredients, making a smoothie is pretty simple. But if you want to make a really great smoothie, there are a few tips and tricks you should know. 

Some basic ingredients to have on hand are fruits and vegetables, frozen or fresh; yogurt, milk, almond milk, hemp milk, coconut milk, or any other type of milk substitute if you prefer not to use dairy. I also like to keep chia seeds, unsweetened coconut flakes, and raw almonds on hand.

First and most important you must choose the right blender.

Not all blenders are created equal. If you’re serious about making smoothies on a regular basis, you’ll want to invest in a high-powered blender like a Vitamix. We love our Vitamix!

Vitamix blenders can handle tough ingredients like ice and frozen fruit with ease, resulting in a smooth, creamy smoothie every time. 

If you don’t have a Vitamix, don’t worry. A good-quality blender will do the trick until you can treat yourself to a Vitamix. Just be aware that you may need to add a little extra liquid to your smoothie to help the blades turn, especially when you use a lot of frozen ingredients. 

When making a smoothie in a Vitamix blender, it is important to use the correct ratios of ingredients in order to create a smooth and delicious drink. If too much of one ingredient is used, it can make the smoothie taste unpleasant. But by using the correct ratios, you can be sure to create a smoothie that everyone will enjoy.

Start with Liquid 

Adding liquid to your blender first will help your smoothie ingredients blend more evenly. We like to add milk, water, or juice to our blender first, then add the rest of our ingredients on top. 

This order of operations will help prevent your blender from getting stuck. 

Add Your Solids 

Next, add any solid ingredients you’d like to include in your smoothie. This is the time to add things like frozen fruit, yogurt, protein powder, nuts, and seeds. If you’re using fresh fruit or vegetables, add them now as well. 

Top with Ice

By adding a little bit of ice, you’ll keep your smoothie cold rather than serving a potentially room temp smoothie.

Blend on High 

Once all of your ingredients are in the blender, be sure to secure the lid on and turn it on. For a smooth and creamy smoothie, blend on high until everything is well combined. 

If you’re like me and have added lots of frozen ingredients plus ice and your smoothie is too thick, you can add a little more liquid and blend again. But, if it’s too thin, add a little more frozen fruit or ice and blend until desired consistency is reached.
